Last week I was lucky enough to be invited for a guided tour of Hilsea Lido. Sabrina Richards (Chair) and Helen Dowing-Emms (Vice – Chair) of the Hilsea Lido Pool for the People Trust showed me around the site, described the work that had already been done and the plans for the future.  Sabrina told me that ” Lidos were originally designed as a places to promote health and well-being” which ties in beautifully with the ethos of my residency.  I struggled to absorb everything Sabrina and Helen told me during the time I spent with them because I was mesmerised by the inspirational and intense ‘living museum’ feel of the lido. I knew that I must book the site for one of my WeLL Writing sessions and will do so as soon as I have it confirmed that the funding is available.  The proposed date is Sunday July 8th 1pm – 4pm and I hope many of you will join me.  The time will be spent walking around the site and discussing the way it makes us feel before we settle down as a group to write the stories it has inspired in us.

Tomorrow I will be chatting to the year 5/6 students at Charles Dickens Junior school about why they are an important part of my residency, and giving them each their own copy of Oliver Twist. This is being filmed and will be aired on BBC South Today at some point between 6th – 10th Feb. *eeeek*

On the 9th of February I will be interviewed by Julian Clegg on his BBC Radio Solent Breakfast Show. I have to be at the satellite studio at 7.24am so I assume I will be on air shortly after that. *double eeeek* You can listen live on 96.1FM, 103.8FM, DAB or online (I would love it if you contacted the show and said hello).
