Shameless self promotion – cover update and other news

Published on Sunday 20th June 2010 by DJ Kirkby

My publisher got the proof copy of Without Alice back from the printers and he wasn’t happy with the way it looked.  He thought the type was too hard to read on the cover so he adjusted the cover design until the problem was solved. I love the updated cover because it makes me feel as if I am looking in at the characters inside Without Alice.
It wont be long now until copies of Without Alice will be available.  Initially they will be sold exclusively from my publisher’s website until the official publication date on the 4th October. If you would like to be added to the waiting list for Without Alice then send me an email at djkirkby (at) gmail (dot) com and I will notify you when the first copies are ready to come live on your bookshelf.
Details of the first competition can be found on the Without Alice Facebook page.  Go there by following this link or by clicking on the Facebook box below. If you want to become a fan of the page simply click the ‘like’ button in the box below and updates about Without Alice will be sent to you automatically from Facebook.

Don’t worry if you’re not a member of Facebook because there is a blog version of this competition.  Link back to this post or any post or page (there is one at the top of this blog) about Without Alice, let me know you’ve done so and I’ll enter your name in the draw for a signed copy!

If you’re on twitter then simply ‘retweet’ any of my twitter updates about Without Alice to gain entry into the competition.

The London launch party for Without Alice has been confirmed for October 4th 2010 and will be held at the Big Green Bookshop.  There will also be a Hampshire based launch party for Without Alice in October and I will give you more details on that as soon as I have them confirmed. I’m looking forward to seeing you at the launch parties.

  • wow, love the cover! it's getting exciting now, not long, eh? If you are wanting reviews of it I would happily do one for you x

  • Hi Heather
Yes very exciting! Funny you should offer to do a review for me as I had already put your name down to ask you to do a review for the phase two virtual book tour when 'Without Alice' will be available to buy everywhere instead of just exclusively from my publisher's site.

  • This must be so exciting for you, and not long to wait at all!

Does this mean you get not one, but two, P-Days? The first in July when the book's available from the Punked Books' site and then again in October when it's out on general release?

  • Hi Kath
It is so very exciting. I guess unofficially I do get two P days but I don't think my publisher is looking at it like that. He calls Oct 4th THE publication date.

  • I'll certainly be along to one of your two book launches. If its as good an evening as the last one then it will be unmissable.

  • Hi Troy
Oh that's great news! I look forward to seeing you again. I'm not sure what to do with this book launch, something different….I'm open to suggestions so if you've got any clever ideas about this sort of thing let me know.

  • Hi Old Kitty
Thanks, I'm glad you like it.

    Hi Casdok
I know, not long at all!

    Hi Talli
It's good fun! I'm hoping loads of people get told about the comp and all the other fun stuff that will be happening.

    Hi Nitebyrd
You're on my list. Thanks. x

  • You so know that Chris and I will be there….I wouldn't miss it for the world honey!! (He doesn't know it yet but Tom will be there too :-D)

I am so proud of you and, although I've already read it, I'm looking forward to holding a copy in my hand!!

    C x

  • Such a good photo . There is so much going on in the mind of this guy on the cover. I would be drawn to this book in a shop, because of my curiosity about that guy, wondering what he is thinking about, what he is troubled by. can't wait for this:-)

  • Thanks for dropping by my blog. (=
There are several aspies in my family. (-= Fabulous, intelligent and unique. Growing up around them gave me a thick skin because they say and do whatever they want. Haah!
I like your blog and will watch for your book. Very cool.

  • Hi Suzanne
Sure does 🙂 Author photoshoot on Sunday, eeeek!

    Hi Carol
I am so excited that you'll at be at the book launch. Can't wait. You coming to London or planning to indulge in a weekend down South?

    Hi Becky
I'm so glad you mentioned that because that is exactly how I feel about the cover. It would catch my attention too but I do wonder if that is just because I am biased. So nice to hear others feel the same.

    Hi Jo
What a great comment, thank you :)We Aspies ARE fab, oh yes. And, blunt 🙂 but hey at least we don't have any hidden agendas like so many NTs. My novel is about hidden agendas.

    Hi Cheryl
Thank you! And, thank you for tweeting about it and for following the facebook page. x
