“Doing” a Doctorate – week 40
My eye consultant had a cancellation so he offered the operation slot to me. I got the call literally two minutes after I had walked out of work to start my 3 week holiday. Of course I said yes to the operation date, I’ve been waiting for it since Feb 9th and it’s getting quite difficult to do some things (like running, cycling, hearing what students beyond the front row are asking because I can’t see their mouths move). I was only planning on being at home writing assignment number 4 anyway (along with some sea swims and lots of running) so I will probably have more of a standard holiday type rest while recovering from surgery than I would have had on my actual holiday.
Not sure when I’ll get assignment 4 written now which is a bit of a worry…oh goody, something new to worry about! I suppose if I didn’t have something to worry about then I would only worry about having nothing to worry about…ooooh and soon I’ll be able to worry about all the weight I’ve gained because of not doing any exercise whilst still eating desserts.
Not sure if I’ll be able to write my post next week. I know I am able to do a ‘bit’ of reading and to do a ‘bit’ of screen time but wont know what that will translate into in the immediate post op reality. Certainly for the first couple weeks post op I know it will be nowhere neat the amounts I am used to now, but it will be worth the boredom post op if it means I end up with a functioning eye.
